MIGRATIONS

EUROMEDAFRICA. BEYOND EMERGENCY

Migration, Reception, Inclusion, Co-development. The role of the Med-African Diasporas” is a multi-annual project (2016-2018) promoted by the Italian Center for Peace in the Middle East (CIPMO), in partnership with the Piedmont Center of African Studies – CSA (for the year 2016) and with the Centre for International Politics Studies – CeSPI (for the year 2017). The project has been organized in collaboration with the magazine Confronti and the Center for Studies and Research IDOS – Dossier Statistico Immigrazione.

The project sees the diaspora communities present in Italy and coming from the Middle East and North Africa as key elements not only for the reception of refugees and migrants, but also for the development of a coherent inclusion policy, and for combating radicalization processes. An innovative and hands-on approach that overturns the traditional one, thus going beyond the emergency.

The project has enjoyed the support of the Analysis and Planning Unit of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and it has been co-funded by Banca Intesa Sanpaolo and by CIPMO. The Center – in collaboration with Sotheby’s – promoted annual auctions of contemporary art, thanks to the generous gift of a work of art by more than 100 renowned Italian and foreign artists.

The project has developed through several national conferences and field activities. In 2017 and 2018 exemplary initiatives were carried out on the ground, through pilot projects with the Senegalese Community in the province of Bergamo, with refugees with high skills in Piedmont and with the Diaspora organizations in Milan.
